Managed to get on a little better this week. The two horses I have done will still need touching up later with a little soft pastel, especially on the manes. Now it's just a matter of continuing along, and another horse to do. What was I thinking when I chose this picture! I think I will be going back to my african people and wild animals in the future.
Life in Africa.
A day after getting engaged Klaus was showing some officials around a new site to be built on when his dog accidentally mistook a trouser leg for a bush amongst all the grass. 'That was it! He was to be removed and no longer working for the company there.
The manager suggested another building proposition in South Africa and Klaus was to leave in a couple of weeks.
We talked about the move to South Africa but felt it was too far to try and be together, so the answer was 'Let's get married'. Panic everyone.
My mother's reaction was 'Where do I get a hat' there were no shops around that sold that kind of thing. Most friends lent each other that sort of thing.
Where was I going to get a wedding dress? Yes, we had a few indian shops that made up dresses, but no material suitable at that moment.
I finally went down with Klaus to Blantyre, our 'big city' which had a couple more shops that we had, and stayed with friends and hit the couple of shops that were there. I have since seen pictures of these two towns on the internet and would never recognise them now. Skyscraper's and so many buildings, not just the one main road we had. Managed to get some white satin material, a short veil and we popped into a little jeweller's and bought the only two wedding rings there, luckily they fitted.
Back in Lilongwe our neighbour offered to make my dress as she was a dressmaker unfortunately although a lovely person with a heart of gold, she was also an alcoholic and kept forgetting to make my dress. I finally managed to get the material back from her, and had it made by a friend a couple of days before the wedding.
Someone who worked for the forestry department who we knew offered to do the flowers for the church, and another friend our cake as a wedding present. My folks arranged the reception at the local hotel so all was going well. Another friend arranged the cars for us. He contacted his business friends who drove Mercedes and borrowed them for us.
Another friend who had the most beautiful garden with flowers was going to do the bouquet and buttonholes. So many people rallied round for us to help out.
Everything was falling into place.....
'Fatso' our wedding planner!
Time for a meal out with mum and my sister Sally whilst dad took the photo.
Do catch up with me next time. Stay safe and well.
