BORNEO.
Up bright and early today as we are flying up to Sepilok to the Orangutan Sanctuary. I have been so looking forward to going here, but have heard it can be hit or miss if there are some orangutans around in the wild for you to see.
It was hot and very sticky and humid walking around on the paths amongst the trees, but were we in for a treat.
I was as if every one of these fabulous creatures were out to greet us.
From the really big boy. The feeling that they are looking deep down into your soul. Very humbling.
That very gentle touch of a hand that comes out to greet you, unless you have been lucky enough to experience this, it's hard to find the right words for what you feel.
This one did not like our guide! Kept lashing out at him and taunting the guide. Did not bother about us, maybe it liked tourists.
Lazying around on one of the platforms. These are feeding stations where they can come, but are not fenced in , they roam free around in the jungle. Bowls of fruit and other veg etc that they like are put out under the watchful eye of a ranger. encourages youngsters to get some food as well. Orphaned babies are kept in a special unit and looked after until old enough to go out into the wild.
'Dinner time' grab as much as you like! Some grab as much as they can and slouch away.

My little darling
This is one of the youngsters that gave me the treat of a lifetime, by jumping out of the tree they were playing in and jumping into my arms. The thrill of it all. We were so taken back Klaus was not quick enough take a photo, although several tourists around did.
This inspired me to do this painting.
The Proboscis monkey we are told does not like you having eye contact, so eyes averted. Don't quite like the idea of a annoyed monkey with attitude! Don't let it know but they are rather odd looking!
I hope you are enjoying our trip to Borneo.
Have a good week and catch up with me next week. Click on any picture to enlarge it.
