A medical story this week.  When we finally left Africa I trained as a nurse. I had always wanted to be one, and as a child had a homemade uniform and tried to look after anything looking ill. Fantastic career and loved nearly every moment of it.As a child I used to go down to the local hospital with a friend of my mothers and help roll up bandages and sort out empty pill bottles ready for cleaning.
I remember when I was on district evening shift when we used to call in to help patients get ready for bed and usual medications and jabs etc.
This was my first time at calling at a new patients house where we were to help a disabled gentleman to bed.
I undid his braces and removed his shoes to help him undress. We had to lift him up out of a wheelchair to take his trousers off. The other nurse who was with me helped him to lift himself up whilst I grabbed the trousers and pulled them down. I had the shock of my life. Both legs fell of with his trousers which ended up sitting on the floor like a person cut in half. He had false legs and this was one of his tricks for new nurses going to his house. He roared with laughter at my face and yes I finally saw the funny side as well. He was a great personality and a pleasure to nurse. We also had to promise never to warn a new nurse coming in. This was his little surprise!

A new picture to start this week. I saw this picture of the African secretary bird and fancied doing it.
I am trying out a new paper to see how this turns out. I usually go for sand coloured not white, but will see how it works out.You can use it for pastels and also light washes, so I might try acrylic for the background.

See you again next week.
