Warm greetings to you all.
This last week-end we were up at the game park. Had a lovely little rondavel to stay in and a great BBQ meal in the evening.
Ours was like this, just a little rounder. |
Klaus and a couple of other men went off to look for animals using the spotlight on the jeep. I had decided to stay at the camp. This was a man's, being a boy's, outing.
It wasn't long before I heard a weird sound coming from outside. The others were due back anytime so looked out the window to see if it was them. There was nothing to see, it was totally black until the shadow across the window moved. Seems a visiting elephant, well known to the camp had been to leave me a present. I watched it for awhile from inside, did not fancy leaving the safety of the room. The noise I had hard was it scratching its back on the wall. Klaus found the pressy a little later when he stepped into it.The men had got caught up in a herd of buffaloes, and had to sit and wait for quite a long time, keeping still, not easy, till the big herd moved off. Buffaloes are a very dangerous animal, especially when spooked. I was the only one to have seen and been visited by the elephant. Must have been the perfume!
Thankfully we were left in peace for the rest of the night. The following day it paid another visit only to pinch any vegetables it could find from the area around the cookhouse. They also had maize growing near- by, to cook you corn on the cob with your charcoaled meat and fish.
Had the usual African Grey monkey to visit and look out for any tit bits. Could spend hours watching them at play. They look so cute and lovable, but have a nasty bite if you are nipped. It's little one was so adorable.
On the way home stopped to look at the Boa ab tree, looks like a tree planted upside down. Weird looking trees, but well known out here in Africa.
Passing through one of the small towns on the way back, hit a lovely storm. Can the rain come down, the road was soon like a torrential river. But give it a couple of hours later, and probably as dry as a bone again.
That's it for this week, off to get dry and have a cuppa.
Had to be an elephant for this weeks picture.
