Jambo, Jambo, dear followers.

Hope you are all enjoying our travels, would love to hear from you.

Yesterday  we had some lovely mulberries for a pie. Whenever I have this fruit it reminds me of the time we lived in a little town in Uganda. At the end of our road was a Hindu Cemetery or Crematorium. They had a lot of mulberry trees growing there and us kids loved to climb the trees to pick the fruit.
Morbid as it sounds, sometimes we got to watch a Hindu funeral. We would see the wrapped body laid on the funeral pyre with garlands of flowers. Then watch the ceremony of lighting it and the cremation. If noticed, we  would be shooed off much to our disappointment. If found out by my parents it was a strict telling off.  There was nothing frightening or ghoulish about this.  This was life and you leaned to respect other peoples belief's and ways. Like covering up and removing shoes when entering temples. I had a few Indian girl friends and loved dressing up in saris and putting henna patterns on my hands. My friends liked doing the more western things when round at our house. Listening to pop music and trying out make-up. But we both accepted each others way of life.
My sister and I were very lucky to have been brought up in such a multi cultured life and with friends of different nationalities.

Celebration time, some ladies out in the Malawi national dress.

Let's all have a party and enjoy ourselves, or is this the village drums passing on all the local gossip!

Life is not easy out here, but always a happy face to be seen. Grinding down some maize, or corn on the cob to us, ready to make the families meal. No popping into the local supermarket and picking up an instant meal.Flying ants were collected in the evening, quite tasty when roasted. I heard that as a child, I would quite often help our nanny and gardener collect some to cook that night for part of their meal. Only thing was, I ate them alive, wings and all. I was only a little  kid then!  Both Klaus and I have  eaten python since, tastes rather like chicken, but put it in a sauce .Once was enough! We have both tried and eaten many things that now days would cringe at the thought of it.
You won't be having that in Klaus's recipes. Snake or creepy crawlies are off the menu these days! So do check out that page.

That's it for this week, keep well.

Picture of the week.

This week at art.

Not a lot to show for the time I spent on my picture. Had Jill who I am teaching and her friend from England around this week. Vicky had a try at pastels as well. Can see another artist coming up.
Jill has a real talent and it is a real pleasure to have our art mornings together.

Very nearly finished. Visitors leave this week so hopefully will get the last bit of picture finished.
