21/07/2018

I think I have now managed to correct my old ladies face and as usual filling in around as I go down the picture.
One side I have left undone so as I can get round the picture without rubbing off any colour with my hand.

'Let's Travel'

Several years ago whilst we still lived in the U.K, before we had decided to move out to Cyprus, our daughter reminded us that if we were having a holiday that year  we had better go in the next month or so. She was going back to part-time work after her maternity leave and we were going to help out babysitting .  The brochures came out and 'where shall we go that we can afford' was the question. There are many exotic and interesting  places to see, but we had not won the lottery.
I had always fancied something oriental, or far eastern. My love would always be Africa, having been brought up there, but there is so much more of the world I would love to see. Bali came up, but then there had just been political problems there, so may be not now was decided. Klaus did not quite fancy some of the usual far east places, all looked very crowded!
Then Borneo came up with a well known company for looking after slightly older people.  3 weeks for the price of 2 and plenty of excursions included. Wow, Yes, this looked like the one. We quickly rang up the agents and booked it.
After a very long flight with a couple of refuelling stops and change to a smaller plane we landed in a typhoon in Kota Kinabalu. A rather scary landing onto a strip that goes out to sea especially for this kind of thing. Waves come up to the windows and at that time, no land in sight. Praise goes out to pilots everywhere. Safely landed and onto the hotel coach we saw palm trees were bending over double and rain lashed around as we drove to our hotel.
We did kind of wonder what we had come into to!  We did know it could be wet, but!
Our hotel looked lovely when we drove up and with all the time difference's we were ready to relax for the rest of the evening and look properly around the next day.

A few pictures around the hotel.

 Swimming pools to tempt anyone.

All the bedroom blocks have lovely gardens surrounding them, peace wherever you walk, and flowers in abundance. Birds everywhere. Fish ponds to admire.

A beautiful sunset over the South China Sea to end our first day.
Tomorrow we will have our first trip into town.

GOURDS.

Some more picked and being prepared ready for carving and painting.

Some more of these coming up!

Do join me again next week and enjoy the memories with me of Borneo.
