Here we go again, working on a new house to make it our own, or should I say old house and rather neglected. Standing around empty and to the elements for several years does not help. A list was drawn up with plenty of work to be done. New roof, maybe not this year, the steps and road, the drive, garden, decorating, the list was never ending, plus all the usual like electrics etc.
First we had to cut down quite a few trees just to be able to see around, especially the large 'Persian Lilac' that was tied to the house right in front of the back door that led into the garden. This had roots going into the house and under it, also lifting up the paving.
Doe's not really show how big the tree actually was! |
Three days of hard slogging to get this tree root out
Now makes a nice base for the bird bath
The rest of the tree makes enough wood for the fire in winter
We had some very steep steps going down to the front of the house which brought you really to the utility room, the front door was rather round to the side. Also the previous owner had taken some of the ground belonging to the road that passed the cemetery. This we heard caused problems for the funeral hearse going round the corner. We would redo this whole area and give back that piece of road. Living here now for nearly 6 years have only seen a hearse going by a couple of times. It still goes to the front gate and the coffin is carried through. Oh well!
Klaus worked really hard at redoing a stone wall with nice curved steps coming right round to the front entrance. The area for the road was filled in with stone and rubble and whatever that we had delivered to fill in,next came the concrete to cover it all making the road wider. Now even a large concrete mixer can easily drive passed. But that will all be for next time.
Come back next week to see how work is progressing.
Picture of the week.

Sniffles and snuffles on the way out I was able to get back to my picture. As you can see have filled in some more of the elephant and continued a little more of the distant background. Still some more work on the elephants to be done as I gradually make my way across and down.
