Life in Africa.
Klaus's work on the presidential palace here in Blantyre is nearly completed, so we are now starting to look into moving back to England. The company he has been working for is also packing up here on the building side.
I have often looked up the hill to the palace and wondered what it was like. I knew it was a beautiful place and lovely landscaped gardens, some themed from other places.
I could never get Klaus on the phone when I phoned him up on the land line, he was always somewhere on the the site, and could not always be found quick enough.
Before we left one of the government officials who Klaus worked with, asked if there was anything we would like to do. Klaus mentioned that I would love to see where he had been working, although I realised for security, this might not be possible. I was granted an official tour of the whole palace, whilst the president was away somewhere. It was fantastic. The chandeliers, fresco paintings by artists from abroad, tapestries and furnishings, and not forgetting the paintings and art work. It was just like you imagine a palace to be. I also went into the presidents bedroom even to slippers by the bed. I was allowed to see some rooms even Klaus was not allowed in after it had all been completed.
Outside Japanese style garden with huge lion dog statues, another section laid out like a french royal garden, the other sections all had their special themes as well. It was all so beautiful and amazing to see and walk in. No wonder Klaus was always so busy he could get lost somewhere.
I will always treasure the memory of this visit, and the honour I was given.
